Today you’ll be doing a sequence of activities using Advanced Search features to find relevant and timely information about issues that matter to you. You’ll use these facts to support your opinion when writing the Letters to the Next President.
For Monday, complete the writing activities for the photograph on page 69, “Tree of Life.” This same image is in the new edition too. Complete the “Preparing to Write” and “Moving Toward Essay: Analysis and Reflection” questions only.
For Friday, 10/3: Browse the list of stories on the Wikipedia article, “United States Journalism Scandals.” In your writers notebook answer the following prompt: in your opinion what are the five worst cases of all time? Explain each choice.
On the block day you’ll read “Living with Weasels” and answer the questions after the essay in your writers notebook. On Thursday read “The Bird of Paradise” and answer the questions after the essay in your writers notebook. Writers notebooks will be collected on Monday.
If you didn’t finish your post in class on Friday, make sure you put one on Youth Voices by Monday.
For Thursday, read pages 71-77 in Models for Writing, and respond to the journal prompt on page 74 in your writers notebook.
Go the the KQED Devil’s Advocate website and find out more about political issues, and test your knowledge about them.
Then open up a new Google Doc and explain your position on a few issues of your choice. Be sure to include both sides of the argument by citing them using snippets.
