Read “The Gods” section of the mythology book for Tuesday, 3/3. Enter a writing contest by Friday, 3/6. Here’s a link to my list of suggested contests, but you can enter a contest that’s not on the list – just clear it with Mr. Sloan first.

For Tuesday, 3/10, define your mythology vocabulary words and finish reading the stories in the “Nature Myths” section of the book.

Solving a Problem

Upcoming essay assignment: Proposal to solve a problem; this typed draft is due Tuesday, 2/10. The typed revision should be in the form of a letter addressed to a person who can help effect a solution, due 2/17.

Write a letter, proposing a solution to a clearly defined problem affecting a group or community to which you belong. Your task is to establish that the problem exists, to offer a solution that can reasonably be implemented, to lay out the particulars by which your proposal would be put into effect, and to consider objections and alternative solutions. If you’re not sure what to write about, here’s a link to some suggested topics.

First step, state the problem and research it. Find out as much as you can about it. Post the most relevant research and findings to your Youth Voices blog.
