About this site

Chris SloanHello and thanks for stopping by. The 2008-09 school year is already showing a lot of promise. Thanks to some generous donors we have an abundance of new technology to work with. Match this cutting edge technology with Judge’s tradition of academic excellence, and you’ve got a pretty powerful combination.

The purpose of this site is to inform you about what we’re learning. Every day you’ll find information about what the classes are studying and planning to do. Click on a link in the Pages panel to the right to find the latest information about these classes.

I use a lot of digital tools in my teaching. That’s because the definition of literacy is changing. You can read more about research on the new literacies at Reading Online, or from the NCTE Definition of 21st Century Literacies.

Here’s a list of links that I’ve found helpful for learning and literacy. If you come across any links you think I should add to this list, let me know

Writing resources: Purdue’s Online Writing Tutorials, Good explanation of plagiarism

Reading resources: NYC librarian’s picks for teen readers,

Journalism resources: History of Photography, Typography, Columnists,

Rhetoric and Composition resources: Handbooks

And if that’s not enough, here’s a link to my social bookmarks.
